In Chasing Bandits, Missy Hopper joins with illustrator Nel Slaughter to bring us the first adventure of Theodore Roosevelt Hollumway Jones and John Hart. Hopper beautifully introduces us to the minds of these two young and imaginative boys, to the heart of their world, and to their simple, but never dull, friendship.
This true story brings new life to the childhood memories of Hopper’s father, growing up in the Mississippi Delta some seventy years ago. The retelling invites us to travel back to a time, that wasn’t so long ago, and to a place that, in many ways, remains as it is today–hot, dry, and full of adventure.
So come along with Theo and John and enjoy life in the Delta—grab a fishing pole, ride a mule, dine on sorghum molasses, and chase some bandits. But stay out of trouble and mind your
manners for there are more adventures still to come.
Missy Hopper was born in the Mississippi Delta. She lived mostly in the deep South, but raised an Air Force brat, she has lived all over the world. As fate would have it, Missy has recently returned to her Mississippi roots and is currently a professor at a research university in Mississippi where she is committed to literacy research and practice. After many years of
hearing tales of the escapades of her mother and father, both born and raised in the Mississippi Delta, she decided to put pen
to paper and record some of their most
unforgettable summer adventures.
